I Want Peace! exhibition. Part of Auckland Heritage Festival 2023.

“I want peace! I want my family to smile like before. I want to feel the safe sky and bright warm sun over my head. I want to go to school. I want to freely give joy and happiness with my violin playing”, Illariia, age 7, Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.

View moving testimonies of war from children. Polish children record their experiences during World War II under German occupation, while Ukrainian children draw the current war. Includes the ‘Mom, I Don’t Want War’ exhibition of the Polish-Ukrainian AAN archival project, courtesy of Polish Embassy NZ, 50 Years NZ-Poland diplomatic relationship.  In addition, there is a spotlight on some of the Polish children from war zones who later made their lives in Auckland.

Heritage Festival runs from Sun 24 Sep–Sun 8 Oct, Tue-Fri: 10am-4pm, Sun: 12pm-5pm. Polish Museum closed Mon & Sat.

Peace and Love: paper cut-outs workshop. Part of Auckland Heritage Festival 2023.

Create Polish ‘wycinanki’ paper cut-outs in this fun workshop with the Polish Museum. These traditional cut-outs were created for decorating walls and ceiling beams in rural cottages for seasonal festivals. Designs are based on the Lowicz and Kurpie regions of Poland. After the visual presentation and craft workshop, enjoy the displays of wycinanki in the museum, then take home your own unique wycinanki artworks.

Sun 24 Sep, 2pm-4pm & Thu 5 Oct, 10am-12pm or book your own group time to suit.

Cost: $10:00 per person includes materials.

March With Us! Illustrated talk. Part of Auckland Heritage Festival 2023.

Processions, fundraising, a Vulcan Lane vigil and Queen St march were among events to raise awareness of communist atrocities behind the Iron Curtain in Poland. Find out more about the Auckland efforts of organisations, politicians and the wider community in this illustrated talk in English by Polish-Aucklander, Jack (Jacek) Drecki.

Beginner’s Paper Cut-outs Workshop

Come create with paper and scissors. Great activity for the whole family. Relaxing and fun.

Polish decorative paper cut-outs belong to the most colourful in the world. Traditionally they were cut by hand, without drawing the lines first, using sheep shears.

  • Take home 2 art works
  • Watch a short presentation
  • Designs based on the Lowicz and Kurpie regions of Poland
  • This workshop is also available throughout the year, on other dates and days, and is ideal for birthday parties too!

$10.00 per person. Age 7-adult.

Polish Traditions of Easter exhibition.

Come along and find out about a traditional Polish Easter.

This exhibition is running alongside our Polish Easter craft workshop, which you are welcome to participate in on Sunday 24 March, as part of World of Cultures 2024 – see separate event listing for more details or book a time for your own group.

The exhibition will be available from 17-24 March (but please note the museum will be closed for Easter weekend).

Open hours are Tue-Fri 10am-4pm and Sun 12pm-5pm.

Casual entry is by donation.

A small fee applies for groups – please contact Polish Museum staff to arrange your group visit.

Celebrating Polish Easter with crafts. Part of World of Cultures Auckland Festival 2024.

Design your own Polish Easter egg in this creative workshop for ages 7 to adult.

Create a colourful Easter Palm from paper. What is smigus-dyngus? It’s something fun!

Watch an educational presentation to find out about Polish Easter traditions.

Enjoy the Easter displays within the museum, then take home your own unique Easter craft work.
